Crystal Pier San Diego

Crystal Pier San Diego

San Diego’s Crystal Pier is located at Pacific Beach. It is a wooden pier with some cute little cottages located on it. They are rented by a private company and are normally booked far in advance of a stay. You’re not missing a thing when you find out you can stay at hotels with ocean views overlooking the Crystal Pier and Pacific Beach.  Available for your visit is a handful of hotels at Pacific Beach known for its surfing, beach fun, and eclectic beach restaurants.

Sports are big here, as well. Surfing, swimming, beach, running, jogging, walking kite flying, and  sand castle building are a few strenuous to easy activities to get your body moving. As beaches go, Pacific Beach is surrounded by Mission Beach to the south, and La Jolla beaches to the north.  There are some volleyball courts to play a game, and the little souvenir shops sells paddle ball sets, Frisbees, and other balls and toys for games.

Hotels near the Crystal Pier include Diamond Head.

Crystal Pier is a top choice for Beach, sun and fun. The area is safe (even though you will see poor homeless people at morning and night) and there’s a lot to do with the beach, shops, surfing, playing under the pier all great activities. I have stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage. You can hear was the waves washing beneath the pier and sometimes feel it gently move. Gringos Mexican near the hotel is good food. They close the pier off after dark so the hotel guests have privacy and security, which is great.

This pier isn’t one of the largest, one of the most modern, or one of the most convenient piers in California, but pier fishing is quite popular. When I was there, people were catching halibut. 872 feet, most pilings are old. A realtor came up with the idea of the pier. It was dedication in 1926 as Crystal Pier. Once hosting Crystal Pleasure Pier Ballroom and Joy Zone, the structure was poorly engineered and made visitors to the ballroom sick from the swaying. The pier and ballroom were shut down not long after being built. It was rebuilt in a sturdier manner and cottages were added. You can access the pier at the end of Garnett Ave. at Pacific Beach. I read information about it at this site http://www.beachcalifornia.com/pacbch.html
