Best Western Island Palms Hotel
Budget hotels aren’t necessarily cheap accommodations as you’ll discover when you check into a room at the Best Western Island Palms Hotel and Marina. Two beautiful swimming pools near the bay, a lobby filled with tropical streams and plants, and nicely decorated rooms, many with bay views, are just the start of this excellent “budget” hotel experience.
Do you like beach bonfires? Head on out the door and have your very own bonfire experience in nearby firepits? Meetings, weddings, and other special events are easily hosted in what really doesn’t look like a Best Western hotel. While San Diego great region has over 25 Best Western hotels, this one sets the standard for excellence.
Location on Shelter Island in San Diego, this finger-like island features several hotels and restaurants lining the waterfront. With water views and a harbor with boats and yachts, you are surrounded by bays and the look and feel of a luxury resort. If you’re looking to save a few dollars over more expensive accommodations, this Best Western is on the high end of budget in terms of room rates. But once you see it, you’ll think it’s great.

I love the Best Western you featured. I don’t actually think of it as a budget hotel. The prices are a little lower that some of the other resorts and hotels with similar locations, but this is every bit as nice, I think. I can recommend it first hand.

I just stayed in San Diego last week and my vacation was fantastic. The Island Palms Hotel made my getaway the best. My room was a lot less than some other have said they paid. I paid around $150 / night and others online said they paid around $250. I think because of the economy I got it a little cheaper.
Great for meeting up with friends, I got a room in the A section. I walked in and saw a palm tree lamp shade and tropical flower art next to the bed. I asked for a king bed and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it. There were ample chairs, tables, seating and it was a great place to lounge after a night out with the girlfriends I went down to party with. The shower was kind of small, but other than that, everything else was fine.
My favorie part of the hotel is the views and setting. Boats, bays, and some pretty mountains on a clear day make this just a beautiful spot to wake up to.
I have stayed on shelter island when the hotels have had different names. Even the restaurants have changed. But one thing that doesn’t change is the setting. There’s a walking path with paved sidewalks that allows you to get a decent little workout and a park right in front of the hotel.
The restaurant prices are a bit high, and since I know about other places around town, I either head into the downtown or out to Ocean Beach area for some muffins, gourmet coffee, and a stroll on the beach in the morning.

It’s a great hotel. I like hanging out at the pool. Weather is ideal, even in the winter.
